We hope some of the following tips will help answer any questions you may have if you don't feel comfortable in your new bra.
BAND SIZE
- If you look side-on at the mirror, your bra band should be horizontal – the same level – all the way around your chest. If it's riding up your back then buy a smaller band size.
- Remember, the bra's main support comes from the band and not the straps. So if you're wearing a band size too big then your straps will take up the weight causing them to dig in.
- Due to wash and wear, a bra can increase in size. So when buying a new bra, make sure it fits properly on the loosest hook as you will probably have to tighten it at some point due to wear.
CUP SIZE
- Bra cup fittings are represented by a letter and relate to the size of your breasts. You can judge your cup size from the bra you are currently wearing.
- A fully fitted cup looks great, if it's not then try going down a cup size. If the cup is wrinkling around the centre (nipple area) then try going down a band size to pull the fabric taut.
- If the breasts are spilling out over the top and sides of the cups then try the next cup size up.
UNDERWIRING
- The underwire should sit on the ribcage at the side and not dig into any of the breast and lie flat against the breastbone at the centre. If it doesn't then go up a cup size.
Finally, try on a tight fitting top with your new bra. Inspect and ensure you have smooth lines and that there are no unwanted bulges.
Bras, unfortunately, vary in size according to manufacturer – and even in different styles – so don't worry if you have to buy a different size, just follow the tips above.
